Welcome to this years Pear Harvest
2011
Winter Harvest Begins
Oct. 4th
7:00 am until noon
and 5:30 until dark
The Medford Orchard is one of 56 production projects of the LDS Church Welfare System. Pears produced at the Medford Pear Orchard are processed and canned in church canneries and used throughout the world to provide relief to needy families and humanitarian aid. The Medford orchard provides all of the pears for the church welfare system. Much of the work performed on the farm is done by local volunteers, including the harvest of over 1.5 million pounds of pears each year.
We have always appreciated the commitment and dedication that the Saints of Southern Oregon and Northern California have given to the growing and harvesting of the Lord's pears. Your dedication has provided a selfless act of service that reaches to the far corners of the world. And as we provide this service we bring to pass the 38th section of the Doctrine of Covenants verse 35 which states: "And they shall look to the poor and the needy and administer to their relief that they shall not suffer..."
The pears of the Lord's Orchard brings the sweet taste of hope and refreshment to the tables of those who have suffered setbacks or misfortune brought into their lives. These pears are the Lord's dessert to his children they bring the sweet taste of hope.
Due to the economic conditions in the world, the Church has asked us this year to provide more fruit to the Church system than in the past.
We also anticipate harvesting more fruit this year as the younger trees are now starting to produce.
We therefore need everyone's help in the harvest. We again ask that every able-bodied member 12 years of age and older to contribute a minimum of 12 hours to the pear harvest.
If each member dedicates 12 hours of service, we should easily remove the pears within the two-week schedule.
We estimate that the pears will be ready to harvest the 2th of September. This date can be modified as the pears mature. Your ward Pear Farm Coordinator will keep you updated.
Thank You So Very Much
