Medford Pear Orchard
Training Schedule
We are implementing some changes to the harvest this year to improve efficiency. These changes will require additional training for ward pear farm coordinators, row coordinators, and platform pickers. In order to be well prepared for the upcoming harvest, we have set up the following training schedule.
Platform Picking Sign up
This web page is for you to sign up for picking on the platform picker for the 2011 harvest. Before you choose your dates and time slots WE ASK that you please review the information below. Then click on the weeks schedule to the left to see what dates and times are available.
1. Dates and times for the Platform are first come first served.
2. The time slots are 3 hour blocks. If you cannot be at your assignment the full three hours please choose a different time. (it takes 8 pickers to effectively man the platform. any less than 8 will drastically slow production.
3. Once you have submitted your time request, we will check availability and e-mail you with your confirmation and your name will be added to the web site schedule.
4. If the dates and times you chose are already taken you will receive an e-mail asking you to choose another time slot.
5. If you wish to drive the Platform Picker you must be certified to do so.
6. If you cannot fulfill your assignment you will need to get a replacement and notify us with this change so we may update the schedule. (your ward Pear Farm Coordinator may help you find a replacement).
7. Working on the platform is hard and intense work and can be performed by men and women 18 and older (you need to be in good physical condition).
8. If you have been previously trained to operate and drive the Platform picker you may choose dates and time slots to drive.
(if you would like to be trained contact your ward Pear Farm Coordinator for more information).
9. You will need to be at the Orchard 15 minutes early. This will give you time to sign in, locate the platform and get yourself to
the platform prior to your start time.
10. You can view your assignments by clicking on the week schedule you signed up for. There you will be able to see others
who you will be working with. This can be helpful in car pooling rides.
